I’m the Soldier’s Ex-Girlfriend
Hook
“Some women would kill to date the novel’s goofy hero… Maise Hazelnut would rather choose her own ending.” After breaking up with the harem-magnet protagonist, Maise goes on a blind date with the mysterious Eith Lancell. He’s perfect—maybe too perfect. What is he hiding? 👀
Why this landed on my Roulette
The slow burn payoff
The first 20–25 chapters are deceptively slow (many readers bounce!), but the plot kicks into high gear and pays off the groundwork with twists, reveals, and real growth.
Yandere → Healthy(-ish) love
Eith starts as an unnervingly possessive, controlling ML; the story intends for him to feel off. Over time, communication and accountability reshape the relationship into something far more mutual.
Characters worth staying for
Maise shines, the supporting cast is memorable (Perun supremacy ✨), and—finally!—a Saintess who isn’t two-faced.
Seasoned pacing tips
Big truths surface around ch. 43; Season 2 improves communication and plot momentum. If S1 tests your patience, S2 rewards it.
Content Notes (read before you dive)
- Possessiveness & obsession: ML’s control issues are text, not a “cute” trait. He lies out of fear she’ll leave—intent doesn’t excuse harm, but it frames his arc.
- Manipulation / deceit: Includes a fabricated “safe” world tied to FL’s work; fallout and boundaries are addressed when the truth emerges.
- Pacing: Early chapters feel romance-looped; plot escalates later with magic/gods/worldbuilding threads.
My Take (spoiler-light)
I loved this. Once the plot turns, I couldn’t stop tapping “next.” Maise & Eith’s shift—from toxic patterns into earned trust and better communication—felt rare for the genre. The possession/identity angle subverts expectations without glamorizing the harm that precedes it, and the epilogues stick the landing (that wedding dress! 💕).
Open mild spoilers / pacing roadmap
- Ch. 1–25: Relationship vibes dominate; unsettling ML behavior is intentional.
- ~Ch. 43: Major reveal catalyzes separation and reflection.
- Season 2: Communication uptick, character growth, plot threads (gods, consequences) move.
