The story is straightforward—nothing revolutionary—but it fully embraces its simplicity. The ending is predictable, but the atmosphere is where this manga truly shines. It’s disturbing in a way that gets under your skin: giant swollen bug bites, insects crawling over your body, pets being attacked… ordinary fears turned into a nightmare. The horror works because it feels too real.

A good horror read for a quick chill. The art is gorgeous and haunting, but the story fades fast. The connection between the leads feels undefined—sometimes spellbound, sometimes resistant. Kikuko’s transformation into the Insect Princess happens suddenly, and her tragic fate is accepted rather than overcome.

Kikuko and Ryochi are cousins—their fathers are twins. Kikuko kills her father after he tries to murder her, cementing her monstrous nature. In the finale, Ryochi gives in to her, merging with her in body and will. Together, they transform the world into one ruled by insects, their mutations hinted at from the start with the waterborne imagery.
