The Hitman Stans Vol. 1

Series: The Hitman Stans

The Hitman Stans Vol. 1 was such a fun personal read and honestly one of the best surprise picks from my Honsama subscription box. I grabbed this one as a $1 add-on, and it ended up being chaotic, hilarious, and way more charming than I expected.

The whole idea of a deadly legendary hitman dropping everything just to fully commit to idol stanning is already iconic, but what really makes this work is how seriously the manga commits to the bit. It is absurd in the best way while still being genuinely entertaining.

Story & Highlights

The story follows Owaru Endou, the strongest hitman from the Fujiyama Group, who suddenly retires—not because he’s tired of killing, but because he wants to support his favorite idol, Kaorin Minaboshi, with clean money. And honestly, that alone already tells you how committed he is.

What makes this so entertaining is how the manga constantly plays with his duality. You literally get moments of him in full “eliminate” mode and then instantly switching to “cheer” mode, and those panels are easily some of the best in the entire volume.

There are so many standout moments too. Like when he finally gives in and wears the concert T-shirt after meeting another fan, Yoshida, and ends up going completely wild cheering—so much so that his shirt literally gets destroyed. Or when he struggles with taking a photo with Kaorin because of his past training, which turns into such a soft and genuinely sweet moment.

You also get to see his new life outside of being a hitman, like when he works as a delivery driver and somehow still ends up dealing with crime anyway. Whether it’s stopping amateurs from going down the wrong path or accidentally exposing a shady operation, chaos just follows him everywhere.

One of my favorite parts was the photocard chapter because it perfectly captures that collector mindset. He goes from not caring at all to suddenly needing every single Kaorin card, and it really shows how deep idol fandom can go.

Also, something I really appreciated is how accurate the idol culture feels. Each member of Rosaceae has a color, and fans identify each other through that. If you’ve ever been into idol culture, that detail just hits.

Personal Note ♡

And not gonna lie… as a BTS stan, I actually found this super relatable 😭 I’m OT7, so I love all the members equally, but I 100% understand the feeling of wanting to support your favorite artists, collecting merch, watching everything, and just being fully invested in their world. Endou is obviously on another level, but that core feeling? Yeah… I get it.

My Thoughts

This manga has such an unhinged but lovable setup. Owaru Endou is introduced as the ultimate killing machine, so seeing someone like that turn into a full-on idol stan is immediately funny. The contrast between his terrifying reputation and his complete devotion to his favorite idol makes almost every scene hit harder.

What I liked most is that the humor does not feel lazy. It plays with the ridiculousness of the premise, but it also makes Endou weirdly endearing. He is intense, dramatic, and absolutely committed, whether that means surviving danger or waving a glowstick with his whole chest. That level of dedication honestly makes him such a fun main character to follow.

I also really liked that this does not just stop at being a joke concept. There is still a sense that his past is hanging over him, which gives the story extra tension underneath all the comedy. That mix of absurd humor, action energy, and fandom devotion made this super entertaining for me.

For a manga I got as a cheap add-on, this ended up feeling like a real hidden gem. It was funny, memorable, and easy to fly through. If you like over-the-top comedy with a wild premise and a lead who is both deadly and ridiculously sincere, this one is absolutely worth checking out.

I would definitely keep reading because the concept is just too fun, and Owaru as a character carries the whole thing so well. This was such a good reminder that random pick-ups can seriously surprise you.
