Background

Joo Jaekyung is a world-renowned mixed martial artist and the reigning light heavyweight champion of the MFC International Tournament. His overwhelming dominance in the ring earned him the nicknames “The Tyrant” and “The Emperor,” solidifying his status as one of the most feared fighters in the sport.

He grew up in extreme poverty and endured prolonged physical abuse from his father, a failed boxer whose violence shaped Jaekyung’s early life. Hunger, neglect, and humiliation became constants, pushing him toward boxing as both escape and survival. From underground matches to professional leagues, Jaekyung clawed his way upward with sheer endurance.

His rise to the international stage marked a turning point: the tattoos on his arms, absent in his early career, symbolized his transformation from survival mode to dominance.

Physical Characteristics & Fighting Style

Jaekyung is tall, heavily muscled, and visibly marked by combat. His cauliflower ears, scars, and rigid posture reflect years of relentless fighting. In the ring, he is shirtless, wearing loose black shorts and black gloves, moving with calculated aggression.

Though famous for his striking power, Jaekyung is an all-rounder skilled in grappling and submissions, including techniques such as the guillotine choke. A left-handed fighter in competition, he is ambidextrous in daily life.

Lifestyle & Habits

Outside the ring, Jaekyung lives in stark contrast to his upbringing. He resides in a luxury penthouse with a private pool, owns high-end vehicles, and maintains an expensive, carefully curated wardrobe. Despite this, his habits remain rigid and ritualistic.

He enjoys watching movies—often black-and-white when he cannot sleep—along with reading, jogging, and swimming. Milk is a constant in his routine, a lingering comfort tied to childhood deprivation.

The Jinx

Jaekyung believes he is bound by a personal “jinx”: that he must sleep with someone the night before a match in order to secure victory. What begins as superstition becomes ritual, reinforced by repeated wins and deeply intertwined with trauma, control, and fear of loss.

This belief leads him to dismiss doctors and conventional sports medicine in favor of what he perceives as certainty. Winning is not optional—it is survival.

Relationship with Kim Dan

Jaekyung first meets physical therapist Kim Dan during a temporary treatment session and quickly becomes fixated on him. Exploiting Dan’s financial desperation, he coerces him into becoming both his personal therapist and sexual partner to “resolve” the jinx.

Their relationship is defined by power imbalance, emotional cruelty, and possession. Jaekyung repeatedly refers to Dan as his property, yet paradoxically protects him—paying off his debts, intervening during moments of danger, and defending him publicly.

When Dan leaves, Jaekyung spirals into insomnia, alcohol use, and obsession. This marks the beginning of his “regret ball” arc, exposing an inability to cope with abandonment and emotional vulnerability.
