Dear reader,
I have always been fascinated by Billy Bat, especially because manga fans have talked about it for years,
but I never had the chance to read it until now. Seeing that it is finally getting an official English translation
made this ARC feel even more exciting.
Volume 1 immediately pulled me in with its noir atmosphere, postwar Japan setting, and unsettling mystery.
Kevin Yamagata’s search starts with one simple question: did he really create Billy Bat, or did he copy something
he saw long ago? From there, the story spirals into murder, cover-ups, prophecy, and a symbol that feels much bigger
than one artist.
What stood out most to me was how every answer created even more questions. Why is Billy Bat everywhere?
Why have multiple artists drawn him? Why does the symbol feel tied to history itself? And that ending had me
staring at the page because I needed to know why the bat was on the moon.
Why it worked for me
The mystery builds slowly but never feels dull. It has that tense, layered feeling where every clue feels important,
even when you do not fully understand it yet.
No-spoiler standout
The recurring bat imagery is genuinely unsettling. It feels like a symbol, a warning, a prophecy, and maybe something
even stranger all at once.
