Summary

The story follows two high school students, Hino and Nene, who have been inseparable since childhood. What Nene doesn’t know is that Hino has been in love with her for years — and today, he finally confesses. Unfortunately, she immediately assumes he’s joking or lost a bet. After all, she’s not popular, but he is. Why would someone like him ever like someone like her?

Her friends try to convince her she’s literally blind to reality, but Nene dismisses them. Meanwhile, everyone at school knows Hino for rejecting every girl who confesses to him — his infamous “Death Love Letters.” No one knows the real reason behind them.

One day in the library, Hino writes a letter everyone assumes is another rejection. But this time, it’s different: it’s a love letter addressed to Nene. When he tries to deliver it to her shoe locker, she catches him and immediately denies the possibility. She panics, runs, and the two end up in a chaotic chase through school.

Overwhelmed, Hino blurts out the truth: every “Death Love Letter” he ever sent was because he rejected other girls for one reason — he’s been in love with Nene and no one else since they were kids. Nene finally believes him and accepts the letter, blushing as she admits her own feelings.

The twist? They’ve both been in love since they were seven. They just never had the courage to say it first.

My Thoughts

I instantly adored this oneshot. It’s short but so emotionally satisfying, especially if you love childhood-friends-to-lovers done with sincerity. Nene’s insecurities felt real — she genuinely couldn’t imagine someone popular loving her. And Hino? He’s peak “loyal to one girl forever” energy.

The reveal about the “Death Love Letters” is both funny and adorable. This man was out here rejecting everyone with the same reason every single time: “I’m in love with Nene.” Like… iconic behavior.

It left me with that warm feeling that sometimes the love you want is actually right there, you just gotta stop assuming and actually speak up.
