My Review

This review copy of Veil Volume 1: Temperature of Orange was provided through NetGalley, and I loved it so much. It is absolutely stunning. The entire volume has this nostalgic rom-com feeling that instantly reminded me of old 1950s dresses, fashion sketches, vintage magazine spreads, and classic romantic design.

What makes Veil so beautiful is how much feeling comes through without the story needing to be loud. There is elegant silent passion, subtlety, hush-like tenderness, and so much quiet tension between the two main characters. Their interactions are sweet, witty, and lovable, but there is also this delicate distance between them that makes every small moment feel more intimate.

The story follows a city police officer and a runaway blind heiress who becomes his telephone operator. Their relationship builds through daily life, gentle teasing, soft conversation, and the way they slowly become comfortable around each other. Because the heroine is blind, the manga puts extra focus on sensation, touch, sound, atmosphere, and internal emotion. That makes the romance feel even more unique and immersive.

Kotteriโ€™s artwork is gorgeous. The full-color illustrations feel painterly and fashionable, almost like reading through an artbook, but the story itself still feels very approachable. The expressions, body language, outfits, colors, and page compositions all carry so much emotion. The art does not just decorate the story. It tells the story.

I also love how Veil feels like a beloved TV show where you can tune in to any episode and feel right at home. It has that warm, familiar charm where the charactersโ€™ chemistry carries the entire experience. I have not read Volume 2 yet, but after finishing this first volume, I am genuinely so excited to continue. I will definitely be purchasing it and sharing with my followers how wonderful this series is.

Overall, Veil is elegant, romantic, stylish, and quietly emotional. It is perfect for readers who love subtle intimacy, beautiful fashion, vintage atmosphere, and romance that speaks through silence.

What I Loved

  • The vintage fashion atmosphere. The art gave me old magazine, classic dress design, and elegant 1950s romance energy.
  • The quiet romantic tension. The chemistry is soft, subtle, and full of emotion without needing dramatic confession scenes.
  • The full-color artwork. Every page feels carefully composed, stylish, and expressive.
  • The focus on sensation. Touch, sound, silence, and atmosphere shape the story in a way that feels unique and intimate.
  • The character dynamic. Their conversations are sweet, witty, and comforting while still carrying that lovely slow-burn feeling.
