⏳ “Do you believe in destiny?”
Destined to Love is one of those rare otome games that throws you completely into another world. You’re just a normal girl living a peaceful life with your best friend Kyo—until one day you’re transported back in time to Japan’s Bakumatsu period. Suddenly, you’re caught in the middle of a revolution, surrounded by deadly samurai, political rebels, and charming rogues.
Will you side with the Shinsengumi or the revolutionaries? Will you survive long enough to fall in love? And even if you do… will your love survive the time you’re trapped in?
Suppose you’re a fan of period romance, sword fights, political intrigue, and a lot of romantic tension. In that case, this one is worth digging up, even though it’s no longer available on official stores.
🧨 Gameplay Overview
- Format: Freemium mobile otome
- Routes: 13+ love interests
- Tickets: 5 per day to progress (standard)
- Monetization: Coins for premium options & CGs (very pricey, often hard to get)
- Extras: Costumes, avatar system, room decor, limited story events
- Ending System: Multiple endings per route based on your choices, with special epilogues if you earn enough points

While the coin system was brutal (premium choices were almost impossible without spending), the routes themselves were worth it. From seductive courtesans to mysterious rebels, every love interest brought something new to the table.
💖 What Makes It Worth It?
Destined to love, despite being a freemium mobile title with a frustrating coin system (premium choices and CGs were often locked behind hard-to-get coins), the storytelling and characters were chef’s kiss. The routes had depth, surprises, and a lot of spice.
Even though the game hasn’t had new events lately and is officially unavailable, it remains a classic. If you’re willing to use a simulator, it’s still 100% worth experiencing for the routes alone.

💘 My Character Rankings & Full Impressions
Below is my full personal ranking with commentary, detailed bios, and love for each guy—because let’s be real, this game made me fall hard.

🥇 1. Keiki (Yoshinobu Tokugawa) – The Shogun’s Secret Love

“He was my first route—and instantly my favorite. Sexy, powerful, sad. I was obsessed.”
- Birthday: October 28
- Height: 5’9″
- Occupation: Head of the Hitotsubashi family / Shogun contender
- Seiyū: N/A
- Likes: “Well, there are a lot of things I dislike…”
- Dislikes: “You really want to know that much about me?”
💭 My Thoughts:
Keiki was the very first love interest I played, and wow, what a sexy introduction to the game. His route felt sultry and emotionally charged in all the best ways. He starts as a carefree flirt, charming everyone around town under the alias “Keiki,” but behind that smooth smile is a man carrying heavy responsibilities as the head of the powerful Hitotsubashi family and a candidate for Shogun.
What stuck with me was the emotional tension of his story. Just when things get serious, he vanishes, forced to return to his role as Shogun-in-waiting, leaving the heroine heartbroken. That ache, that sense of longing… it hit me hard. But it also made the romantic payoff even more rewarding.
Despite all his wealth and status, Keiki seems to hate anything fleeting: love, fun, even happiness. But through your relationship, he begins to see that maybe some things are worth holding onto, even if they’re not permanent.
🔥 He’s sexy, sorrowful, and surprisingly deep; a classic “playboy with a past” that made him impossible for me to forget.
🥈 2. Kogoro Katsura – The Ghost of the Rebellion

“Sexy design, sexy voice, and that haunted ghost vibe? Say less.”
- Birthday: August 11
- Height: 5’10”
- Occupation: Samurai, rebel leader
- Seiyū: Komada Wataru
- Likes: “Hmm? That’s a secret.”
- Dislikes: “People who give mixed signals.”
💭 My Thoughts:
Katsura had me hooked from the moment he appeared; not just because of his incredibly sexy character design, but also because of the air of mystery that clung to him like a shadow. He’s a Choshu warrior with strong ideals, always pursued by the Shinsengumi, and yet somehow always just out of reach.
His presence in the story feels like a ghost, appearing, disappearing, always leaving you wanting more. And when he vanishes because of his ideals and opposition to the Shinsengumi, it hits hard. You know why it had to happen, but that doesn’t make it any easier to let go.
Despite being a wanted man, he remains in Kyoto, driven by ambition and something deeper. His personality is cheerful, even playful at times, but there’s a hidden sorrow behind that smile, a secret he keeps close, waiting for someone to uncover.
✨ He’s the kind of man who feels like a dream; passionate yet distant, unforgettable even when he slips through your fingers.
🥉 3. Shinsaku Takasugi – The Dangerous Outlaw

“He disliked the MC so much it turned me into a fangirl.”
- Birthday: September 12
- Height: 5’9″
- Occupation: Revolutionary Samurai
- Seiyū: Itou Kento
- Likes: “You really think I’m going to tell you?”
- Dislikes: “For starters—you.”
💭 My Thoughts:
Takasugi’s route pulled me in because he genuinely disliked the heroine at first, and honestly, I lived for that tension. He’s cold, mysterious, and completely unwilling to play nice. A Choshu rebel hiding out in Kyoto, he’s considered a criminal by the Shinsengumi, but he’s too clever and slippery for them to catch. He just comes and goes as he pleases, always leaving behind more questions than answers.
Something is intoxicating about how elusive he is; you never quite know if he’s about to betray you, disappear, or reluctantly open up. He’s the type who might get close just to use you… And yet, those rare, vulnerable moments hit so much harder because of it.
With dangerous ideas and a quiet fury driving him, Takasugi isn’t trying to be loved, which makes falling for him feel like stepping into fire. But the burn is worth it.
🔥 Cold, calculating, and impossible to ignore; Takasugi is the ultimate “don’t fall for him”… but of course, I did.
4. Toshizo Hijikata – The Fierce Lieutenant

“Apprehensive and strict with a soft underbelly. Also, he has a pet turtle.”
- Birthday: May 31
- Height: 5’8″
- Occupation: Vice Commander of the Shinsengumi
- Seiyū: Maeno Tomoaki
- Likes: Tortoises (only tortoises)
- Dislikes: “Stop asking me stupid questions.”
💭 My Thoughts:
Hijikata gave off that main character energy — intense, disciplined, and undeniably captivating. His route had this slow, simmering build that made every moment feel earned. At first, he was cold and suspicious, clearly apprehensive about letting anyone new in… but that just made it all the more satisfying when he finally started to open up.
The Shinsengumi’s lieutenant, he’s known as “The Demon” for good reason — he’s strict, decisive, and always focused. But underneath that fearsome exterior is someone who quietly cares, even if he won’t admit it outright. I loved catching those small glimpses: helping the others even when he grumbles about it, working at his desk with those glasses on (yes, the glasses moment lives rent-free in my mind), and most of all… his pet turtle. That little guy was such a sweet, unexpected touch that softened his image for me.
Hijikata might wake at the slightest noise, always ready for battle — but when he’s with you, there’s a rare peace in him that feels just as strong as his blade.
🖤 Reserved, responsible, and reluctantly romantic — Hijikata is the kind of love that feels earned, and I loved every moment of it.
5. Hajime Saito – The Blade in the Shadows

“In every Shinsengumi game or anime—he’s my favorite. Hands down.”
- Birthday: Unknown
- Height: Unknown
- Occupation: Captain of the Third Corps
- Seiyū: Unknown
💭 My Thoughts:
No matter the game, anime, or adaptation, Hajime Saito will always be the love of my life. There’s something magnetic about him. He’s calm, composed, and endlessly serious on the surface… but once he falls in love, he falls so hard it’s impossible not to melt.
Saito, the Captain of the Shinsengumi’s Third Corpscommands quiet respect. He’s got a sharp gaze, a sharp blade, and a mind that never misses a thing. Even Hijikata and Okita acknowledge his skill, which says everything. But what captured my heart is how much he hides beneath that stoic exterior, the reason he covers one eye, the secrets he carries, and the vulnerability he only shows when he’s truly safe.
When he loves, it’s all in; no games, no hesitations. Just unwavering loyalty, fierce protection, and this soft sweetness that’s so rare it feels sacred.
🌌 Mysterious, noble, and deeply romantic — Saito is the kind of love that stays with you… In every version, every lifetime.
6. Haru-Akira (Kirisato) – Courtesan by Day, Assassin by Night

“He’s so hot when he’s in Kirisato mode. Like—insanely hot.”
- Birthday: June 24
- Height: 5’7″
- Occupation: Courtesan / Secret Assassin
- Seiyū: Unknown
- Likes: “Why don’t you take a guess?”
- Dislikes: “Nothing.”
💭 My Thoughts:
Let me be honest, Kirisato is so sexy even when he’s just a side character. But when you finally get to play his route? It’s game over. The way he moves, speaks, and smirks, everything about him exudes confidence and sensuality. There’s something so forbidden and intoxicating about falling for someone who shouldn’t even be an option… and that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable.
Known as one of the most well-known courtesans in the red-light district, Kirisato is desired by many, and it’s easy to see why. That sultry voice, graceful presence, and sharp wisdom make him both a confidant and a temptation. He’s kind, he’s clever, and he sees through you more than you expect.
But there’s always something just out of reach with him, like a veil of silk you can’t quite pull away. You know he’s hiding something big, and the closer you get, the more dangerous and enticing it feels.
🔥 Elegant, elusive, and emotionally layered, Kirisato is the kind of love that feels like a beautiful risk… and I’d take it every time.
7. Ryoma Sakamoto – The Wild Child of Tosa

“He’s fun in other routes but his own story felt… lacking.”
- Birthday: January 3
- Height: 5’9″
- Occupation: Samurai
- Seiyū: Umehara Yuuichirou
- Likes: All food, especially yours
- Dislikes: Women (lol)
💭 My Thoughts:
Ryoma is one of those characters you want to love, and honestly, I almost did. He’s so friendly and lovable when he shows up in the other routes, always dashing, open-minded, and just the right amount of rogue. He feels like the kind of hero who should sweep you off your feet… but when it came time to walk his path, something felt a bit lacking.
He is a Tosa warrior with dreams of opening Japan to the world. Ryoma’s vision is bold, his ideals heroic, and his smile disarming. The Shinsengumi view him as dangerous, and yet he somehow slips through their fingers every time, adding that thrilling sense of rebellion to his story. He’s drawn to the unusual and has this charming curiosity about the world that’s easy to admire.
His slightly sullen attitude hides a sweetness he only shows to those he truly trusts, and when you do get glimpses of that warmth, it feels special. I just wish the emotional connection in his route had the same strength as his appearances elsewhere.
💫 He’s daring, dashing, and dream-filled; I just hoped for more from his story.
8. Soji Okita – The Mischievous Prodigy

“He is TOO nice. To everyone. Including people he shouldn’t be nice to.”
- Birthday: July 21
- Height: 5’7″
- Occupation: Captain of the First Corps
- Seiyū: Kobayashi Yuusuke
- Likes: My sword
- Dislikes: Yamazaki, hehe
💭 My Thoughts:
Soji is a complicated kind of sweet. At first glance, he’s skeptical of you—distant, hard to read, and not quick to open up. But as your bond grows, that cold exterior gradually melts into something unexpectedly tender. Once he softens, Soji becomes a squishy little sweetheart, treating you with so much gentleness… almost too much. And that’s exactly where the frustration starts to creep in.
Captain of the Shinsengumi First Corps, Soji is famous for his exceptional swordsmanship and laid-back, almost detached demeanor. He treats life like a joke, constantly teasing Yamazaki and brushing off emotional attachments like they’re just too much trouble. Sometimes, he even forgets to eat—he’s that indifferent.
This easygoing charm makes him feel like a classic slow-burn otome romance, but it also comes with emotional distance that can sting. While he’s undeniably kind, he’s so kind to everyone that it starts to blur the lines. I often felt like I was teetering on the edge of being “just a sister” to him. My feelings were there, but did they ever truly stand out?
And yet, there’s something irresistibly warm about Soji. Underneath that ever-present smile and aloof mask is someone who does care, but you’ll need to fight for your place in his heart. If you’re a fan of emotionally complex characters, romantic tension, and that uniquely bittersweet Shinsengumi dynamic, Soji’s route will both charm and challenge you.
🩷 Soft, silly, and secretly sorrowful, Soji is a lover… once he stops treating you like a sibling.
9. 🥷 Susumu Yamazaki

“The shy ninja who’s always watching… and always protecting.”
- Birthday: March 31
- Height: 5’7″ (170 cm)
- Occupation: Spy / Ninja of the Shinsengumi
- Seiyū: Kikuchi Yukitoshi
- Likes: Sparkly things ✨
- Dislikes: The smell of makeup
💭 My Thoughts:
Yamazaki is your classic quiet tsundere, awkward around affection, adorably red-faced when flustered, and always nearby, even if he pretends not to care. His route stood out for its innocent and slower-burn romance, which made it feel gentler compared to the other, more intense paths. While that’s partly why he ranked a bit lower for me, I still genuinely adored how much of a protector he was.
He constantly shows up in the background of other routes; silently gathering intel, watching over the heroine, or just appearing unexpectedly, which made me even more curious about him. When it was finally his turn in the spotlight, I appreciated his shy charm and how he slowly opened up. There’s a sweetness to Yamazaki that’s hard to forget, especially when he tries to hide his feelings but still blushes like crazy the moment you get close. 💖
🩵 A hidden gem in the shadows; loyal, endearing, and unexpectedly precious.
10. Kyo Shinomiya – The Boy Next Door

“Skip. Just skip. Blandest childhood friend route I’ve played.”
- Birthday: April 18
- Height: 5’7″
- Occupation: Time Traveler
- Seiyū: Yashiro Taku
- Likes: Anything athletic
- Dislikes: “I’m a really bad singer.”
💭 My Thoughts:
If I’m being honest, Kyo was my least favorite route. As the childhood friend and the only other person who time-traveled with you, he had all the setup for something emotionally deep and nostalgic, but in the end, it just felt too easy and lacked the same emotional weight that made the other routes unforgettable.
He’s your friend from college, always hanging around with that cheeky grin and casual charm. In the other routes, it’s clear he’s in love with you, and there’s a quiet pain in that unspoken affection… but when it was finally his turn, the payoff didn’t hit the way I hoped it would. It felt more like a quiet detour than a destination.
Yes, something is intriguing about the rumor that he looks just like a missing Shinsengumi member, and his backstory had potential, but it never fully came to life. His route felt skippable, like a filler episode that didn’t quite hold up next to the rest.
🫧 Sweet but shallow, Kyo is the comfort route that just didn’t leave a lasting impression.
🎌 Unplayed But Memorable
Isami Kondo

– Commander of the Shinsengumi. He had total “masculine comfort” vibes in other routes. I low-key crushed on him.
Yukio Shinonome

– Shopkeeper who flirts like he means it… until he doesn’t. Very “metrosexual tease” energy.
Toshimichi Okubo

– Side character I desperately wanted a route for. The developers did us dirty.
🏮 Final Thoughts
Destined to Love is an iconic otome experience. It has drama, heart, sword fights, and spice—all wrapped up in feudal Japan. While the monetization was frustrating and the apps no longer live, if you can get your hands on it through a simulator, it’s still SO worth playing.
If you’re craving forbidden romance, old-fashioned honor, and intense love stories that burn, this one should be on your list.
Rating: 9/10 – Stunning routes, unforgettable characters, but dinged for that brutal coin economy and some forgettable story pacing in a couple of routes.
