📜 Series Summary

I thought I’d finally escaped my hellish life when I died in an airplane crash, but I fell into another nightmare when I awoke as Rudbeckia de Borgia, a minor villain from a historical novel destined to die at the hands of her husband, Iske van Omerta. Surviving with the dysfunctional Borgia family is hard enough, but now I have to marry the man who will kill me! Still, it’s okay, I just have to convince Iske, his family, and all his countrymen that I’m completely harmless! How hard can that be?

✨ Physical Description

  • Height: 195cm (6’5)
  • Appearance: Iske is tall with a defined, masculine physique from years of Holy Knight training. His white, nape-length hair carries subtle grey undertones that match his piercing red eyes. His expression is usually aloof, sometimes intimidating. He’s almost always seen in armor or carrying a sword holster.
  • Extra: Older brother of Ellenia and husband of Rudbeckia.

⚔️ Background & Lore

In the story’s prophecy-core timeline, Iske is the hero of Sodom and The Holy Grail — the one who unites northern nobility and righteous priests to destroy the corrupt Pope and his family.

He became a Holy Knight at 15, then the youngest Gladiatorial Tournament champion in history at 17, before rising to Paladin soon after. His mother’s suicide shattered him — he was the one who found her body, and that trauma shaped his coldness and emotional distance. He appears to be friendly with Ivan and Andymion.

❤️ Personality & Relationship

Iske is distrustful, cold, and arrogant at first glance. He protects what matters to him like a wall made of steel, but he struggles to process emotions because of his past. Once someone earns his trust, he’s warm and gentle — especially toward Ruby.

He’s quiet, action-over-words type, and absolutely ruthless if someone precious to him gets threatened or harmed. Basically: do not get on his bad side.

📌 Key Scenes / Synopsis

• Training Yard: Lorenzo vs Ivan

After training, Ivan tries to talk to Iske, but Iske shuts him down fast, knowing Ellenia put him up to it. Ivan reveals Ruby already arrived at Omerta Castle, and warns that the marriage has zero optimism from most people. Ivan urges Iske to think about Ruby’s fear as a political hostage. Their talk gets interrupted when Lorenzo van Furiana points a sword at Ivan, accusing him of being bewitched by the Borgias. Ivan drags Lorenzo off, while Lorenzo begs Iske to stay away from Freya since she came home crying after meeting Ruby. Iske walks away uninterested.

• Episode 6: Iske Strikes Down the Demon Monster

Iske uses divine power to destroy a demonic monster before it can hurt Ruby. He immediately questions why holy fire was put out, assuming Ruby did it as a scheme to end the marriage. Ellenia defends Ruby, pointing out holy fire isn’t common in Romania. Ruby explains what happened, then breaks down apologizing. Iske isn’t moved by her tears and leaves.

• Episode 7: The Fruit Basket Fall

Ruby tries to check on Iske after the morning incident. He brushes her off, but she grabs his shirt and drops her fruit basket. She theatrically cries, apologizing for making him think she wanted to escape the marriage. Iske smirks, says he doesn’t hate her, but tells her to stop wasting time on useless gestures and suggests she write home to be taken back. As he walks away, Ruby blurts out that she loves him loud enough for everyone to hear.

• Episode 8: Iske Bewildered by Ruby’s Confession

The knights nearby are shook by Ruby’s confession. Iske turns back with that deadly glare and goes, “What?” Ruby says nobody ever saved her before and she wants to help him. The knights hype her up for being brave. Iske just walks off. Later at the banquet, Freya calls Iske over and Ruby gives him a nervous wave. He looks away like he didn’t see her… but still watches her when she approaches.

💬 My Impression

One of my favorite male leads in manhwa. The most devoted husband that sincerely tries to take his wife’s side as much as possible. He also has this me against the world vibe only to protect Ruby against all odds. Even when everyone is yelling at him not to belive Ruby he stands by her side defending her. His resolve is unyielding and he will always be there for his wife even when the world is burning. I love how you can see that even in the first timeline he did love her. Even when she died by his blade you can see the love in his eyes when she is confessing to betraying him.

🩶 Overall Vibe

“A silver-haired paladin built like a fortress — terrifying to the world, soft only where Ruby can reach.”
