Beacon of Light in the Dark Sea Book 1

Story by Softcoral • Art by Ryeomi • Seven Seas Entertainment • Novel • 376 Pages • $19.99
Psychological Survival Horror Sci-Fi Underwater Thriller Korean Novel
Humanity failed to escape Earth… so it descended into the crushing darkness of the ocean instead. What starts as an eerie undersea workplace story slowly transforms into a claustrophobic survival nightmare.
Current Verdict: 9.5/10 ★
Dear reader,

This novel genuinely surprised me with how atmospheric it feels. The undersea setting is not just background decoration — it constantly feels oppressive, isolating, and deeply unsettling. The deeper the story goes, the more the station itself starts feeling alive in the worst possible way.

Muhyeon, a dentist assigned to the station, quickly realizes something is wrong with both the environment and the people around him. The tension builds slowly at first, but once the story shifts into survival mode, it becomes incredibly hard to put down.

One thing I especially loved was how the novel balances moments of warmth and humanity against the overwhelming darkness of the deep sea. Gumi in particular helps ground the story emotionally amidst all the tension and paranoia.
Why the setting works so well
The ocean depth constantly creates pressure and anxiety. Elevators take minutes to travel between levels, sunlight cannot reach most areas, and the station always feels one accident away from disaster.
What stood out most to me
The psychological tension. Even before the horror fully begins, the story quietly makes you feel unsafe through strange behavior, unsettling details, and the overwhelming isolation of living underwater.
