And the worst part? It was supposed to be no strings attached.
Book Information
Synopsis
Akihiro Kaji is handsome, popular, and ridiculously picky. He rates potential partners on a 100-point scale, always searching for someone who meets his standards.
His seemingly ordinary coworker, Yu Fukami, barely catches his attention. But an overnight business trip changes everything when Kaji discovers a completely different side of Fukami.
What begins as a casual, no-strings-attached relationship slowly becomes something neither of them expected.
Meet the Main Characters
Akihiro Kaji
A handsome and popular sales ace who appears confident and practically perfect.
Beneath his narcissistic personality, however, he struggles with loneliness, insecurity, and feelings he doesn’t know how to handle.
Yu Fukami
A seemingly unremarkable employee from the IT department who turns out to be much more attractive than Kaji ever expected.
Caring and independent, Fukami has difficulty relying on others and remains harder to read emotionally.
My Thoughts
I absolutely loved this first volume! The chemistry between Kaji and Fukami was amazing, and I was invested from beginning to end.
One of my favorite romance tropes is when two characters start a relationship with absolutely no strings attached, only for those unexpected feelings to hit like a truck. And that’s exactly what makes this manga so good!
Their physical relationship moves pretty quickly, but emotionally? That’s where the slow burn really comes in.
We experience most of the story through Kaji’s emotions, while Fukami remains much harder to read. I loved watching Kaji slowly realize that his feelings are changing, even when he refuses to acknowledge them.
What made his character especially interesting was seeing his loneliness and insecurities come to the surface. As he starts recognizing the differences between his life and Fukami’s family relationships, his growing attachment turns into frustration.
Instead of admitting how much Fukami is starting to mean to him, Kaji becomes defensive. And honestly, that’s what made their emotional development so compelling to me.
Also, let’s talk about the spice for a second. It was THROUGH THE ROOF! But even with all that physical chemistry, the emotional romance still manages to take its time developing.
Every chapter made me want to keep reading. And that ending? The disagreement, the tension, and the cliffhanger were absolutely perfect for making me desperate to pick up Volume 2!
